The Lost Sheep

From the Gospel of Luke

One — A Shepherd
100

There was once a shepherd who took care of one hundred sheep.

Two — Every Evening
1 2 3 99

Every evening, he counted them. One. Two. Three. All the way to a hundred.

Three — Only Ninety-Nine
?

But tonight, when he counted... only ninety-nine. One little sheep was missing.

Four — Into the Night
the ninety-nine

The shepherd left the ninety-nine safe sheep behind, and went to find the one.

Five — A Tap to Look

It was dark and the wind was cold. He looked behind every rock and every tree.

Six — Calling Her Name
"little one…" where are you?

He cupped his hands and called her name, again and again, into the cold dark.

Seven — Found

There she was. So small. So cold. The shepherd knelt down and gently picked her up.

Eight — All the Way Home

He lifted her onto his shoulders and carried her, all the way home.

Nine — Toward Home

The first light of morning touched the hills. Far ahead, a small village waited, lamps still glowing in the windows.

Ten — Be Glad With Me

He called his friends. "Be glad with me!" he said. "I found my lost sheep!"

A Small Question

Why did the shepherd
go looking for the lost sheep?

Heaven is full of joy when even one is found.
