The Mustard Seed
From the Gospel of Matthew
A man held up the tiniest seed you ever saw — and showed it to the crowd.
Gently, he knelt down and pressed the tiny seed into the rich, dark earth.
Under the soil, something amazing was happening. A pale green sprout pushed upward.
Soft rain came, and warm sun. The little plant drank both, and stretched its leaves up toward the sky.
Day by day it grew — from a tiny sprout, to a sapling, to a great spreading tree.
The tree grew so large that birds from everywhere came to build nests in its branches.
Under its branches everyone found shelter — birds, bees, butterflies, rabbits, and tired children too.
What small thing could
grow big in you?
“Though it is the smallest of all seeds, when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants.”
A flower bloomed.
You finished The Mustard Seed. Your garden has one more flower in it.
