A Story Jesus Told

The Two Debtors

From the Gospel of Luke, Chapter 7

One — The Debt
50 500 50 500

One owed fifty coins, the other five hundred. Neither had anything to pay with.

Two — Forgiven
You don't owe me anything. Both of you. Free. 500

The lender opened his hands and said: "You owe me nothing." Both debtors stood stunned — and free.

Three — Big Forgiveness, Big Love

Both walked away free. The one forgiven much felt a bigger wave of thanks and love.

Four — A Question at the Table
Which one loved him more? What do you think?

Jesus asked at the table: "Which of them will love the lender more?" The friends thought carefully.

A Small Question

Why do you think being
forgiven feels so big?

Whoever has been forgiven little loves little.
